Freedom Film Network will be hosting a book launch of “Kami Pun Ada Hak Bersekolah: Wanita Orang Asli Bersuara” in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday 25th February 2019. This book is a compilation of personal stories written by 18 Orang Asli girls and young women. The stories narrate their experiences of education and highlight the challenges they have faced as well as their dreams and aspirations.
This is the first time such a book has been crafted, amplifying the voices of Orang Asli girls and young women. Their personal stories allow us to better understand their challenges and possible solutions in order to provide better support for the Orang Asli community in Malaysia. The stories highlight obstacles such as bullying, poverty, and lack of access to schools and proper infrastructure. Some of the stories also celebrate the tenacity and perseverance of these young women amidst these challenges.
This book is published by the Freedom Film Network and edited by Brenda Danker from the Freedom Film Network and Dr. Rusaslina Idrus from the Gender Studies Programme, University of Malaya.
